Pastor Taylor is an ordained elder in the Church of the Nazarene ('22). He was saved during a Vacation Bible Service when he was roughly 7 years old. During this time his grandmother was addicted to drugs, and the family was very unsettled. While listening to the VBS workers talk about salvation and eternal peace something spoke to Pastor Taylor. Although he was a very young child, he knew that he had sinned and could feel that he needed a Savior and peace in his life. When the workers called for those who would like to accept Christ as their Lord and Savior, Pastor Taylor walked down the aisle. He met with, what he remembers to be, a middle-aged man. This man talked to him about salvation and how it is possible that we can obtain such a gift. Pastor Taylor told the man that he wished for nothing more than to have his sins washed clean, have peace in his life, and to know where he would spend eternity. The man prayed with Pastor Taylor and that day he accepted the Lord into his life. As time went by he was in and out of church. It was not until just after his junior year in high school that he began to faithfully attend church. It was on a Sunday morning in December that he felt the Lord call out to him. God has called Pastor Taylor to be His servant as a pastor. He fought this calling for about a year and a half, but finally realized that you cannot fight and expect to win the battle when you are fighting the one who created you. He turned himself and his life over to the Lord, and he asked that God work his will and way in his life. Pastor Taylor graduated from Nazarene Bible College in May, 2019 with a Bachelors of Arts in Ministry. He majored in Pastoral Leadership with a minor in Leadership and Ethics.
Pastor Taylor joined Heartland Nazarene in September of 2020.
Betty's life has been a captivating blend of diverse experiences, anchored by a steadfast faith. Born in Germany and raised in Virginia and Ohio, she developed a love for exploring new places and cultures. Her early years included a memorable encounter at a local mission church, sparking an interest in faith, and family trips to Washington D.C., where she was fascinated by historical landmarks.
This early exposure to faith led her family to the Holly Hill Church of the Nazarene, where Betty experienced a profound spiritual awakening. Her faith deepened at age twelve during a powerful prayer session where she felt a tangible sense of God's presence. The family then relocated back to Germany, allowing Betty to immerse herself in European history and culture through visits to cathedrals, museums, and neighboring countries.
Despite encountering various Christian denominations, Betty always felt most at home in the Church of the Nazarene. In 1981, she married Jeff, and they raised two children and welcomed four grandchildren. Betty dedicated herself to serving others as a children's pastor and later as a nurse. Her passion for helping people led her to pursue degrees in counseling and family therapy.
Betty came to Heartland (then New Albany First) in 1996 as Children’s pastor and worked in the church office. She was ordained as Elder in the Church of the Nazarene in 2003. Since then she returned to Nursing at Floyd Memorial, resigning from the Chruch office position. In 2012 she felt a call to return to school to be a therapist and then resigned at Children’s pastor. Betty has continued to work at the church in an unpaid capacity. She graduated from Nazarene Bible College in 2012 with a BA in Counseling for Christian Ministries and in 2015 from Campbellsville University with a Masters in Marriage and Family therapy.
